Breville BOV450XL Mini Smart Oven Review
The first thing I thought about when writing my Breville BOV450XL review was how much of a difference this toaster oven makes to my household tranquility.
You see, long before I had the smarts to own a Breville 4 slice mini smart oven, I had a small 2 slice toaster. With this came an uncomfortable pecking order during our morning routine. My oldest child had somehow developed a view she should be the one who gets toast first every morning, even if she wasn’t first in the kitchen.
When I was a child, we had grown up with a frail 2 slice toaster. When it came to toast, my Mum’s rule was ‘first in best dressed’. Obviously, this meant the first person to put the toast into the toaster, got to eat that toast. No rocket science there.
But nowadays when it comes to my own family, my daughter seemed to believe her age would give her priority over her younger siblings when it came to eating the first toast that popped in the morning. This was irrespective of her not being present when it was placed into the toaster.
It was the same fight every day, just like a Groundhog day.
One morning when my sister popped over for a morning coffee and witnessed this spectacle, she told me they she had invested in a 4 slice toaster and it was a game changer for them.

That afternoon, I jumped online and bought a lovely looking Breville BOV450XL Toaster Oven. It has been transformational. For a simple household appliance, I seriously cannot believe how much I love it.

VOLUME: This toaster toasts more than 2 slices of toast. It toasts 4! That was the biggest priority I had. No more screaming children fighting over the small things!
FAST: This Breville mini smart oven toasts quickly. It is superfast and the 1800W preheat and cooks everything fast.
SMART: The Breville BOV450XL is called a smart oven because it uses an ‘Element IQ’ which really is a fancy way of saying the heat is transferred equally across the four (4) quartz 1800 watt elements targeting exactly where you want the heat to go. There is no wasted energy here.
MULTI-FUNCTIONAL: It does more than just toast bread – it can also heat a pizza, toast a bagel, toast muffins, bake cookies and so much more. It even roasts chicken, broils, reheats, preheats and you can easily cook things like lasagna!
COOLER: It helps keep your home cooler in Summer. No, it does not have an air conditioning function, but it will save your kitchen from getting super hot in the Summer because you don’t need to turn on your big oven to cook those small meals.
ENERGY SAVER: It will help save you energy. As mentioned above, you don’t need to use your larger kitchen oven to cook up those smaller meals. This Breville mini smart oven will easily do the trick and do it quickly. You end up using less electricity overall, saving you money in the long run.
MEMORY: The Breville countertop oven also remembers the last setting you used. How clever is that? If we simply want toast in the morning like we had yesterday, I can simply put the toast in and push one button. No more pressing a multitude of buttons to get the right setting that I had used before. I really like that convenience.
TASTE: When you want to melt cheese onto your toast, you don’t need to use the microwave anymore. The big win here is that the melted cheese tastes so much nicer.
CLEANING: It is a breeze to clean. That is an AMEN right there! It has a non stick coating on the inside, plus a tray to collect those pesky crumbs that seem to drop everywhere.
SIZE: It is the perfect size for my kitchen counter. It is smaller than it looks online but, it does everything it says it will. Its dimensions are 14.25 inches x 16 inches x 8.5 inches. Plus with it’s 3 rack positions, you can position the items you’re cooking as needed.
AESTHETICS: It looks good. I don’t really have a vanity issue when it comes to my appliances but, as this Breville 4 slice toaster oven is stainless steel, I truly like how it looks sitting on the bench.
PORTABLE: If you are doing a kitchen renovation, it is the ideal appliance to keep handy if your oven is decommissioned for a period of time. It’s even great to take on the road if you travel around in an RV.
CONSISTENT: It bakes evenly and is reliable. When I roasted chicken a few weeks ago, it came out perfectly. Then just the other day I roasted the same size chicken and I got the exact same result. The temperature is consistent and accurate.
QUIET: It is noiseless while cooking so need to worry about annoying sounds. The alarm that goes off when the cooking is done is not too loud either.
TIMER: It has a great timer that is simple to program.

Seriously, I could go on and on in this Breville mini smart oven review as it feels like a product-marriage made in heaven. It really is a great addition to any home as it is a solid toaster oven that will easily make a range of snacks and meals.
